2 Signs Your Septic Tank Needs To Be Repaired

Posted on

If you have a septic tank, you want to make sure that it's in good shape all the time. Otherwise, you are going to end up with some serious and very expensive problems and repairs. If you have noticed that it isn't working so well, there are some things that you can check to see if you can get your septic tank working the right way again.

Oddly Colored Grass

Having a lush, green yard is usually a good thing. However, there are times when you don't have that nice green grass. If you are seeing green grass when the rest of your yard isn't as green, or you have noticed that there are lines or patches of grass that are really, really green or strangely colored, you might have a leak in your septic tank or the lateral lines that feed out from your tank. When you start to notice those things, you are going to want to walk along the area where your tank, lateral lines, and leach field are so that you can see if there are mud puddles or puddles of nasty gunk sitting on the surface. You are going to have to dig where you are seeing the worst problems in order to start looking for the leak.

Slow Drains

If you have noticed that you are starting to have drains that are draining slowly or your toilets are starting to back up every time they get flushed, that can be a sign that you have a clog in the pipe or something like a tree root blocking part of your pipes. A slow drain could also be a sign that you need to have your tank pumped out, but if you have had that done recently, then you are probably looking at a clog of some sort. Trees can be a huge problem when it comes to septic systems because roots are going to look for nutrients and water, and that is going to what they are going to find when they get into your septic system. The roots are actually pretty persistent and will work really hard to get into your pipes, and as they get into your pipes, they limit the space there is for things to go through, which is what causes the clog.

If you notice that you are having problems with your septic tank, then you should call a septic system repair company to look at it as soon as possible because the longer you leave it, the more expensive that it can be.
